Details on the Iowa FitnessGram Initiative
The Iowa FitnessGram® Initiative has a unique and formalized partnership with the Cooper Institute in Dallas Texas (www.cooperinst.org) – the developer of the FitnessGram® program. The Cooper Institute has agreed to support and assist the network in order to facilitate tracking of FitnessGram® data and the evaluation of effective physical education programming in Iowa. Schools can connect to the Iowa FitnessGram® Initiative by purchasing the software AND by using the online web hosting services from the Cooper Institute (see www.fitnessgram.net for details). Our intent in establishing a participatory relationship with Iowa schools is to provide direct assistance and support in whatever way we can. However, because it is a participatory network, schools have complete autonomy to use the information and resources to best suit their needs. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Iowa State has reviewed the procedures for the Iowa FitnessGram® Initiative and it is considered “exempt” since data will be collected anonymously and because the assessments are part of your normal school physical education programming. However, to join this "FitnessGram®" component of the network each school / district must complete an online registration form documenting that your school is voluntarily agreeing to participate.
